So I'm heading to Bali in a couple weeks and I'm pretty excited about it. Beach time, good weather, all that. But honestly, Bali itself doesn't have much going on beyond the beaches and resorts. I mean, that's great for relaxing, but I want to see something more than just sand and water for the whole trip. I'm thinking I'll stop in Jakarta for a few days first, check out the actual city, see what Indonesia's capital is all about. Then I can head to Bali and just chill for the rest of the time. Question though, what's the best way to get around Jakarta? I've heard mixed things about transportation there.

Adding a city stop before hitting the beach is a solid plan. Otherwise you show up, lie around for a while, and start wondering what else there is to do besides stare at the ocean. Grab works there, it's like their version of Uber and it's pretty cheap for hopping around the city. Traffic gets insane during the day though, so try to move around outside rush hours or you're gonna be stuck in a car watching the clock tick while nothing moves.

Mixing things up keeps the trip interesting instead of doing one activity the entire time. You'll get bored fast if there's no variety in what you're seeing and doing. Cars just don't cut it in that city because you're sitting there burning daylight while everyone else is doing the same thing.
